About this site

I would like to raise awareness about the impact of the internet and other digital services on our environment. Since these technologies require a lot of electricity, they should be well-designed and used consciously to minimise their negative environmental impact.

I designed this site to be as minimal and as user-friendly as possible, but still easily manageable. Here you can read about why and how I built it in more detail, but you can read a short summary below.

Size matters

This site weighs about 30 to 50 kb per page load. This means that if you are visiting it for the first time, your browser will download only about 30-50 kb worth of assets to compose the page. This is in contrast with most websites where the download size averages well above 2 Mb, or are up to 70 times larger.

User-friendly and manageable

I built this website to be minimal and sustainable. It contains only the information you need without bloated pages and navigation. I hope you agree and that you can find what you are looking for. Let me know if you have any comments.

I built this website using WordPress, an open-source software that allows us to make websites for which the content can be managed easily by the website owner.

Purpose

I built this website to show that it is possible to build websites with a low environmental impact that you can manage as a non-technical website owner.

Over 43% of the web is built on top of WordPress. This means that a large part of the web could be built the right way by contributing to WordPress. We could really make a difference.

Who am I?

I am Csaba, a father and a web designer. I am passionate about the freedom the world wide web has given us, about this planet and its future. I love to make things and hope to change things.
